Math by guest author Genesis, 4th grade
The school district held a young writer’s event, inviting students from first to twelfth grades to submit poems or short stories on any topic they desired. Genesis contributed the following poem, expressing her sentiments about math. Her teacher has engaged in three years of CGI professional learning. This poem resonates deeply with me. I wish every student in the country shared Genesis's enthusiasm for math and confidence in her ability to solve problems. Thank you Genesis for allowing me to share this poem with others.
MATH, by Genesis
Math is the subject
where we learn how to count.
We count numbers, fractions and decimals
in large amounts.
Math is the subject
we’re supposed to dislike.
But wait, math is fun
I get to solve any which way I like.
Math is the subject
that’s everywhere in sight.
From clocks to doors
to rows of parallel lights.
Math is the subject
with problems galore
that come with solutions
Which I can explore.
So do you still think
that math is a bore?
Cause I don’t think so
anymore!
